The excitement starts by 6:00a.m. as cyclists start coming in for registration. This year we had about 125 pre-registered riders and were surprised with over 75 more registrants the day of the ride. From 6:30 right up to the ride start we're loading food/water into sag wagons, the porta-john trailers and the porta-john in the driveway all have lines of nervous riders.
And anywhere from 3 hrs 30 minutes (for the 1st Metric Rider) to 8 1/2 hours (for the last Century rider) after the 7:30 a.m. start, riders cross the finish line. That is when they hit the pool, the pizza, the massage tables in the back yard, the beer, etc. And then they spread out across the front yard and cheer as other cyclists come in. Wow, this is a fun event, even for the host and hostess, and even after 17 years! If you haven't joined us for this........ consider riding OR volunteering next Labor Day sunday. No telling how big the event might be NEXT year!
We are proud that our event raises money to help assist June Curry, the famous Cookie Lady who has generously provided food/water/lodging for cyclists for almost 30 years. And we were HONORED to have her come join us this year!
